🎬 Rehearsals for a Revolution, directed by Pegah Ahangarani, screens at the Sydney Opera House as the Closing Night presentation of First Films Festival 2026.
Winner of the L’Œil d’Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the film traces more than 40 years of Iran’s history through personal and collective memory.
Through five portraits of relatives and mentors — and five expressions of resistance — Ahangarani sketches her own life story. Drawing from personal archives, home videos, street protest footage, newspapers and recorded voices, she journeys from the early days of 1979 through to the war that began in 2026.
Across five intimate chapters, these personal and historical fragments form a portrait of a country shaped by political repression, resistance and an enduring hope for revolution.
